Old work 1999 - 2000

So I used to have a custom website portfolio that is now defunct so I have been starting to dig up a lot of my older work ( pre-2012 ) and move it over here to Art Station. The first of those is this, some of the animation / effects / and lighting work I did for the 1999-2000 Starship Troopers animated TV series. I worked for HyperImage studios, 1 of 4 animation studios that contributed to the show, along with Foundation Imaging / Flat Earth Productions ( I think it was called ) / and Rainbow Studios. We were the only studio using 3ds Max ( the other 3 used Lightwave ) and this was over 20 years ago, so we didn't have any of that fancy shmancy ray-tracing or global illumination, just the good old 3ds Max scanline renderer. Original render size was 720 x 486 at 4:3 for those good old CRT televisions. Many of us who worked on the show felt it looked quite good for it's time, especially considering we only had about 2 months per episode to finish. I recently found an old hard drive that had a bunch of RAW frames and composited AVIs from several of the scenes I worked on, so I used AI upscaling to convert them to 1080p. For the scenes shown, I did all the animation ( except the characters ) / effects / and lighting. The models were all built by Foundation Imaging and we had to convert them over to 3ds Max ( I did a lot of cleanup and some tuning of all the spaceship models to get them to look good with the Max Scanline renderer as well as using the old Cebas Pro Optic Suite plugin to add all the lens flare effects to the ships ) Enjoy everyone, and thanks!
